Valentines is full of cute red hearts, teddy bears, chocolates, and cards for others. This year be your own Valentine and practice self-love!
Love is something we are all searching for. Something we try to understand and we try to take control of. To feel true unconditional love for yourself and others creates lightness, simplicity, and softness. The process of understanding your relationship to love begins with you. Until we learn to open our hearts and love ourselves it can be difficult to give and receive love.
Last week I wrote about the anahata chakra and offered loving kindness as a meditation practice. Continuing with this practice can be extremely helpful in offering love towards yourself. Try repeating this mantra to yourself throughout the day: May I be happy, May I be well, May I be safe, May I be peaceful and at ease. Since it is a ‘holiday’ and many are sharing gifts, buy a gift for yourself, take yourself out for a treat – show yourself some love!
Set daily reminders of how wonderful and awesome you are. It is hard work to always be loving towards yourself and know what is going well for you. So remind yourself! It could be a reminder in your calendar, a post-it note in your wallet, really looking at yourself in the mirror with gratitude, or coming into happy baby posture. Whatever it may be choose something that truly makes you smile and believe that you are awesome!
