Yoga Book Club

Welcome to the @LizaLaird Twitter #YogaBookClub.

Join the @LizaLaird Twitter followers in reading and discussing a book that explores topics in Eastern thought. Whether you practice yoga or are curious about books that cover topics on spirituality, philosophy, and psychology join us for the Twitter chat.

During the month we will periodically post on Twitter letting followers know where we are in the book and what we think so far. We will be positing questions about the book and encourage you to share your thoughts and comments as well.

Be sure you use #YogaBookClub when you tweet.

If you have a suggestion for a #YogaBookClub you’d like picked for a future book club, send us a DM at @LizaLaird.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig is a novel that is meant to both entertain and enlighten. The narrator takes a cross-country motorcycle trip where the maintenance of the motorcycle becomes an illustration of how we can unify the cold, rational realm of technology with the warm, imaginative realm of artistry. Eastern philosophy is coupled with Western philosophy, reminding us to become one with the activities that we are pursuing, to engage fully, to see and appreciate all of the details…to be mindful and present when we are hiking, eating, or tightening the chain on a motorcycle.

For our last book club meeting of 2009 we will be reading Guardians of Being by Eckhart Tolle. It is a unique collaboration between spiritual leader Eckhart Tolle and illustrator Patrick McDonnel. Guardians of Being is a loving and joyous book, which reminds us to enjoy the beauty of the moment and everything that surrounds us.
