Live Light Practice:
 
For three days in a row let ‘everything is awesome’ be your mantra. Repeat it to yourself throughout the day.
You may notice in moments of discomfort it is easier to breath. See if you mood shifts with the mantra. Or perhaps you find yourself resisting the joy. Explore it with your breath and being present.

Take Time to Breathe

When is the last time you sat down and paid attention to your breathing? Really noticed how you were taking in air and expelling it? Do you normally breath in and out your nose? Does most of your breath come from your upper chest, or your allow your lungs to fill up?

Breathing fully can reduce stress and create a sense of calm from within.

Live Light Practice:

Find a supported seated posture or lay down. Take both hands to your abdomen. Begin by breathing and noticing the length of each inhale and exhale. After a few rounds of breath start counting to four on each inhale and exhale. Trying to even out the breathing. Feel your hands rise and fall with your belly and breaths. Be mindful of each moment and relax your jaw.

Once you feel steady start to count to four on each inhale and six on each exhale. Do not force it. If this is challenging continue with the count of four for both inhales and exhales.

Allow your hands to rest by your sides and release the counting, just breath as you normally would. Notice if you feel a shift in mood or quality of breathing.

As the first day of the month it is a wonderful time to check in and evaluate your intentions. What do you want to receive or create in the next month?

The rains of April have stopped and the beauty of a new season is blossoming before us. Take even just five minutes to sit alone and ask yourself how you want to be in the month of May. Not what you want to ‘do’, but how you want to ‘be’.

Are you looking to be confident, fearless, courageous, playful, or joyful?

Slow Down

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Do you ever feel like you are going and going? That you are moving quickly and can’t find time to slow down?

Sometimes I find my self speed walking for no reason. Once I realize it I stop and ask myself what is the rush?

Yesterday I took a beginner yoga class and it was so nice to go back to the basics, to be with each posture. In traditional vinyasa classes we flow from one pose to the next, and sometimes way to fast. In class yesterday we wouldn’t move on from a pose until the teacher had explained in fully and we were each settled in and able to breath for at least ten breaths.

The teachers cues to slow down the breath and be in the posture were refreshing. For beginners in the room they were learning the alignment of the postures, and for me I was able to dig deeper into the pose. It wasn’t about hanging out in the postures, but breathing and being present.

By slowing down we are able to be mindful and present. There is an alertness and power that comes from being fully in the moment.

Take a slow walk. Methodically take each step. Breath.
